Who are We?
Geelong Youth Orchestra started in the middle of 2021 and we performed our first concert as part of the Windfire Festival in March 2022.
On selected Saturday afternoons during school terms we bring together the most outstanding young musicians from across Geelong and the Bellarine to explore, rehearse and perform orchestral repertoire with specialist tutors to the highest possible standard.
Our program is focused on orchestral excellence, supporting young musicians to reach their potential but doing so in a creative and inspired learning environment. We prioritise enthusiasm and the shared expression of passionate and engaged music making. Our program is designed to instil a lifelong love of music, because we know that only a love of music motivates lifelong learning and participation.
We are excited to continue to grow throughout 2024 and would love to have you join us.
Vision
Our vision for the Geelong Youth Orchestra is to create a unique orchestral program of excellence for young people from across Geelong and the Bellarine. The program will run throughout the year.
GYO will work with a professional conductor, play great repertoire, collaborate with excellent soloists and work with artists from other performance disciplines. Our members will benefit from a breadth of performance experience and the support of professional tutors.
The need for a locally based orchestra is testament both to the level and depth of talent in the region and also to the excellent teaching that supports the emergence of that talent.
GYO exists to add its own support to that talent by creating an opportunity to bring it together and to focus it specifically on the development of orchestral skills and experience at a high level.
This will be an orchestra for the people of Geelong and the Bellarine to celebrate and to share the joy of music with.
